I enrolled in this course to deepen my understanding of sustainable fisheries as part of my work with the UAE’s Ministry of Climate Change and Environment. The curriculum was impressively comprehensive, covering everything from traditional knowledge systems in the Arabian Gulf to cutting-edge aquaculture technologies. One highlight was the case study on the UAE’s pioneering work with sustainable shrimp farming—I reached out to the project lead mentioned in the course, and they invited me to visit their facility! The course also pushed me out of my comfort zone with a group project on designing a regional plastic reduction campaign. While the group dynamic was a bit challenging (time zones!), the end result was something I could proudly present to my supervisors. My only critique is that some of the readings leaned a bit too heavily on Western examples, but the instructors were quick to supplement with Middle Eastern case studies when I asked. All in all, a fantastic investment for my career.
